We began as many people may do by desiring to have really fresh eggs for breakfast. Not the weeks old white ones in the supermarket but the big brown eggs still warm from the nest and the possibility of fresh turkey for Thanksgiving. Then my daughters took a liking to chickens and Kate got an incubator and here we are now. Buff Orphington's, Barred Rocks, Silkies, Cukoo Marans, Wellsummer's, Aricanna's, and even a turken or two. Mostly for the eggs. Oh, yes and we also pasture meat chickens in "tractors" out across the cow pasture for that wonderfully flavored fresh chicken.
